On May 12, 2021, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Birmingham Police officers responded to a report of a person shot at 2737 Jefferson Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 17-year-old James Williams Jr. lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the torso. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported him to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
