On June 14, 2021, 18-year-old Barbara Ann Harmon of Talladega, Alabama, was found unresponsive near a crashed vehicle on the 1400 block of Alpine Winterboro Road. Responding to reports of a car accident around 12:20 a.m., deputies from the Talladega County Sheriff's Office and members of the Winterboro Volunteer Fire Department discovered Harmon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
