On a summer day in Valley, Alabama, the life of 23-year-old Antavious Lawenton Sharpe was cut short by gunfire. The male victim was found deceased on July 17, 2021, the result of a fatal shooting that would soon unravel a story of a deadly transaction gone wrong.
Investigators quickly determined that Sharpe's death was not a random act of violence. The evidence pointed to a prearranged meeting, ostensibly for a marijuana deal, that was allegedly a setup for a robbery.
This discovery led law enforcement to three individuals: 19-year-old Jacob Christian Moedl of Notasulga, Alabama, 21-year-old Vincent Ray Tiller of Grantville, Georgia, and 18-year-old Robyn Yvonne Jones of LaGrange, Georgia.
The trio was apprehended in the days following the shooting. Tiller and Jones were located and arrested in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, on July 24, while Moedl was taken into custody in Notasulga on July 26. Following their arrests, all three were charged in connection with the murder of Antavious Sharpe. During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted to planning to rob Sharpe under the guise of a drug purchase.
However, their stories diverged when it came to the critical moment of the shooting. Both Moedl and Tiller pointed the finger at each other, each claiming the other was the one who pulled the trigger and ended Sharpe's life. Jones was identified by witnesses as the driver of the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. She and Tiller were also allegedly linked to another shooting that had occurred in Griffin, Georgia, earlier that same month. Following his arrest, Moedl was held in the Chambers County Detention Facility, while Tiller and Jones awaited extradition from Louisiana to face the charges against them in Alabama.
