Jarez Cytril Ricks, a 31-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on Friday, April 15, 2022, in Valley, Alabama. The incident that led to his untimely death unfolded as a shooting, marking a violent end to the day.
Responding to a call about a person shot, Valley police officers arrived at the scene to find Ricks with a serious gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to EAMC-Lanier Memorial Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the homicide was swift. Within a day of the fatal shooting, the Valley Police Department, with assistance from the Chambers County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team, executed a search warrant at a residence in Lafayette. This led to the arrest of 20-year-old Quantavious Quartez Johnson.
Johnson was taken into custody and formally charged with the murder of Jarez Ricks. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Chambers County Detention Facility, where he was held on a substantial bond. The investigation by the Valley Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division continued as they pieced together the events that led to the tragic shooting.
