Randy Shepherd, a man from Madison County, Alabama, died on March 5, 2022, after a violent two-vehicle wreck that investigators later treated not as a tragic accident, but as a killing. In the months and years that followed, the case drifted in that uneasy space where a family knows they’ve lost someone forever, yet the official story is still being argued over—what happened on the road, why it happened, and whether it rose to the level of murder.
According to court documents described by local reporting, prosecutors say the crash unfolded near MLK Elementary School when a driver lost control and slammed into Shepherd’s vehicle. The state’s theory is that the driver was “quite intoxicated,” moving at an excessively high speed, and that Shepherd was simply driving legally when the other vehicle hit him. What began as a fatal crash investigation ultimately ended with a homicide ruling, reshaping the case from a traffic death into a criminal prosecution centered on intent and reckless choices behind the wheel.
The suspect named in that prosecution is Tajirus Rhondell Green. A Madison County grand jury indicted Green for murder on March 22, 2024, more than two years after Shepherd’s death.
