On May 31, 2023, 41-year-old Derrick Antonio Jones was fatally shot in Fairfield, Alabama. Shortly after midnight, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the 300 block of 66th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a 46-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
