In the late summer of 2021, a tragedy struck a family in Fairfield, Alabama, ending in the death of 44-year-old Corey Dwaynce Waters. On August 26th, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 500 block of 42nd Street to investigate a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Waters, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

Less than a month later, on September 28, 2021, an arrest was made in connection with Waters' death. The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Arthur Lee Thomas, Jr. In a devastating turn of events, it was revealed that Thomas was the victim's own brother.
Following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Arthur Lee Thomas, Jr., and he was subsequently taken into custody. He faces the grave charge of Capital Murder in the shooting death of his older brother. Thomas is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond as he awaits legal proceedings.
