On a Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C., the life of 28-year-old Donald Ray Brown was tragically cut short. It was September 4, 2013, at approximately 9:18 p.m., when gunfire erupted in the rear of the 900 block of 3rd Street, SW. Donald, a Black male from Northeast D.C., was found unconscious at the scene, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The shooting took place in an alley within the Greenleaf Gardens public housing complex. In the violent encounter, a juvenile female was also struck by a bullet, sustaining a wound to her hand. Fortunately, she was treated at a hospital and subsequently released.
The initial police dispatch directed officers to the 300 block of K Street SW, but they were soon redirected to the nearby alley on Third Street where they discovered the victims.
In the years following the deadly shooting, the case of Donald Ray Brown's death has remained unsolved.
