On a spring afternoon in Albertville, Alabama, the life of 30-year-old Brandon Charles Bennett was tragically cut short. On April 7, 2022, police responded to a call at a residence on Highpoint Road around 4:40 p.m. where they discovered Bennett with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was a Black male. Emergency services transported him to Marshall Medical Center South in nearby Boaz, but his injury proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly
pointed to a suspect. Within hours, by approximately 8:30 that same evening, law enforcement located 24-year-old Michael Wayne Childress of Albertville at a local business. Childress was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder in connection with Bennett's death. The Albertville Police Department, with assistance from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's Office, the Drug Task Force, and several other local police departments, collaborated on the investigation that led to the swift arrest.
In the days that followed, friends and family gathered to mourn the loss of Brandon Charles Bennett. His funeral service was held on April 11, 2022, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home, followed by his burial at Union Grove Cemetery #2 in Altoona. He was survived by his spouse, Katlynn Mann, and his four children, sons Caiden Jay and Sabastian Kayne Lee Bennett, and daughters Courtney and Kaliegh Lassetter. He was also survived by his mother, Marcia Bennett, and five brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Bennett.
