Detective Ernest Andrew Whitten, a 36-year-old law enforcement officer from Albertville, Alabama, was tragically murdered on January 24, 1995. The incident occurred when Whitten answered a knock at his back door around 2100 hours. He was shot by James Matthew Hyde, who was just 37 days away from his 18th birthday at the time.
