On September 30, 2022, 31-year-old Zachary Steed Coats was fatally shot in Mount Olive, Alabama. Originally from Wildomar, California, Coats had been residing in Mount Olive at the time of his death. His family, concerned after not hearing from him for several months, requested a welfare check at his residence. On October 21, 2022, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies conducted the check and discovered a freshly dug grave on the property.
