In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 6, 2022, violence tragically cut short the life of a Montgomery teenager. Responding to a call of a person shot at approximately 1:30 a.m., police arrived at the 2700 block of Skyline Avenue to find 16-year-old Erasmo Barrera suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The young male was quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.
For eleven days, Erasmo Barrera fought for his life.
However, his injuries proved to be too severe. On November 17, 2022, he succumbed to the gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased. The case, which had begun as an aggravated assault, was now classified as a homicide, prompting a full investigation by the Montgomery Police Department.
As of early 2023, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained under active investigation. Authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with Barrera's death. In an effort to generate leads, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers offered a $1,000 cash reward for any information that would lead to the identification of a suspect. Investigators have continued to appeal to the public for assistance, urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. The investigation into the death of Erasmo Barrera is ongoing.
