Jasmine Danielle Bean, a 21-year-old female, was a lively and beautiful spirit who was deeply devoted to her faith, family, and friends. Born on June 27, 2001, in Dothan, Alabama, she was an active member of her church, participating in the youth choir, praise dance team, and other groups. She was a young mother to a daughter named Azalea Monae Bean.
On the evening of Sunday, November 20, 2022, a gathering was taking place at a home in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue in Dothan.
Jasmine and a friend, 20-year-old Ja'Lexius Lashon Wells, were visiting the residence. At approximately 8:04 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, they discovered both Jasmine and Ja'Lexius deceased from gunshot wounds inside the home. Neither of the young women resided at the address. When officers arrived, no one else was present at the scene.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led police to identify a suspect. Due to the interest of public safety, a court order allowed for the release of the juvenile suspect's information. Authorities identified 14-year-old Vincent Lamar Oliver Jr., also of Dothan, as the individual wanted for two counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths of Jasmine and Ja'Lexius. It was also revealed that Oliver had active juvenile pickup orders for two counts of attempted assault in the first degree and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle from an incident that occurred in July 2022.
Vincent Lamar Oliver Jr. was taken into custody and charged as a juvenile with two counts of capital murder. He was subsequently held at the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center. Due to a court order restricting the release of further information regarding the juvenile suspect, additional details about the case and legal proceedings have been limited.
