On a Sunday evening in Dothan, Alabama, the life of 20-year-old JaLexius Lashon Wells was tragically cut short. On November 20, 2022, Wells, along with 21-year-old Jasmine Danielle Bean, was shot and killed at a home in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue. Police believe a gathering was taking place at the residence, though neither of the young women lived there. When officers arrived around 8:04 p.m., they found both Wells and Bean deceased from gunshot wounds inside the home.
No one else was present at the scene when law enforcement arrived.
Ja'Lexius, born on August 30, 2002, was described as a pure and rich soul who filled rooms with happiness, love, and laughter. She was deeply passionate about her family, especially her niece, and had a budding interest in pursuing a career in nail technology. Known for her big heart and beautiful smile, she was a supportive friend and a hardworking individual who brought positivity to her workplace.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led police to identify a suspect. Due to the suspect's age, a court order was necessary to release his information to the public in the interest of safety. The suspect was named as 14-year-old Vincent Lamar Oliver Jr. of Dothan. At the time he was identified as a suspect in the murders, Oliver already had active juvenile pickup orders for attempted assault and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle from an incident that occurred in July 2022.
Following the release of his identity, Vincent Lamar Oliver Jr. was taken into custody. He was charged as a juvenile with two counts of Capital Murder for the deaths of Ja'Lexius Lashon Wells and Jasmine Danielle Bean. He was then held at the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center. Due to a court order, further details regarding his case have been restricted from public release.
