In the small town of Pine Hill, Alabama, the holiday season was tragically cut short for the family of Chamya N Saulsberry, a 17-year-old female. Just two days before Thanksgiving in 2022, on November 22nd, a violent act shattered the community's peace. Saulsberry was at a local convenience store with her brother when they became the victims of a drive-by shooting.
The gunfire claimed the young woman's life and left her brother injured, casting a dark shadow over the festive time of year.
The senseless act of violence prompted an immediate response from law enforcement. The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect. The search for the individual believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting extended beyond the confines of Wilcox County. Investigators worked diligently to track down the person who had so suddenly and violently ended a promising young life.
Just a week after the shooting, on November 29, the investigation led authorities to the nearby city of Selma. There, a suspect identified as Tyquez Hare was located and taken into custody. Following his arrest, Hare was transported back to Wilcox County to face the consequences of the incident that had devastated a family and shaken a community.
Tyquez Hare was formally charged in connection with the drive-by shooting. He faces the most serious of charges, including capital murder for the death of Chamya Saulsberry. Additionally, he was charged with attempted capital murder, presumably for the injuries sustained by her brother. Hare was subsequently booked into the Wilcox County Jail in Camden to await legal proceedings.
