On March 20, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Birmingham Police officers responded to a shooting at an apartment building in the 300 block of 1st Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old James Lee Washington III suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
