On February 4, 2021, 33-year-old Edward "EJ" Dee Stewart III was fatally shot at the Anchor Motel, located at 8420 1st Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. The Birmingham Police Department responded to the incident and initiated a homicide investigation.
