On August 5, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama, 66-year-old Ellis Lewis Embry and 49-year-old Timothy Lashawn Erby were found deceased inside a residence in the 1000 block of 42nd Place North. Responding to reports of gunfire, officers discovered Embry unresponsive in a hallway and Erby in the kitchen, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced both men dead at the scene.
