In the early hours of New Year's Day 2019, the city of Birmingham was marked by its first homicide of the year. Earl Lee Evans Jr., a 57-year-old male, was found shot in the yard of his Ensley home. The discovery was made at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

Officers from the West Precinct were dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of 25th Street following a report of a person down. Upon their arrival, they found Mr. Evans lying in the yard, suffering from a guns ...
