On April 8, 2023, at approximately 3 a.m., Fultondale police responded to a shooting at a Shell gas station located in the 600 block of Decatur Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old Ja'Korian Rashad Maiden of Birmingham lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate medical attention, Maiden was pronounced dead at the scene.
