Solomon Stipati, a 20-year-old man from Fultondale, Alabama, died on the evening of September 14, 2023, after a violent two-vehicle crash on Ellard Road. Investigators said the collision happened around 8:12 p.m. in the 900 block, where the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they struck head-on. The impact forced Stipati’s vehicle off the roadway to the edge of the woods, and he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
In the hours that followed, the wreck drew in local and county authorities, with Fultondale police investigating the cause and circumstances. Reports about the crash described the other driver as injured but surviving. For Stipati’s family, the suddenness of it became a hard line in time—an ordinary Thursday night that ended with a phone call no parent is prepared to take, and a young life gone before sunrise.
Months later, the case moved from the roadside into the justice system. Takiyha Sherry Denise Murphy, 26, of Birmingham was identified as the driver accused of causing the fatal collision, and she was charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection with Stipati’s death. Authorities have described the case as involving impairment, alleging Murphy was under the influence at the time of the crash.
