On May 25, 2023, at approximately 9:35 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a person shot in the 4300 block of 44th Avenue North. Upon arrival, they found 23-year-old Deunte Jurrell Winston on a porch, suffering from a gunshot wound. Winston was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
