On June 29, 2023, 38-year-old Jason Michael Mallette, a resident of Daphne, Alabama, was fatally shot while opening Taziki’s Mediterranean Café, where he served as manager. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the restaurant's rear entrance. Mallette and a female employee were confronted by a man who, after a brief exchange, shot Mallette once in the chest.
