On March 31, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Daphne Police responded to a shooting at the 10X Audubon Park Apartments on County Road 64 in Daphne, Alabama. Upon arrival, officers discovered 38-year-old J. Matthews Bonnell Jr. of Lillian, Alabama, deceased from gunshot wounds inside an apartment. A second victim, the apartment's resident, was found nearby with a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
