Daniel Keith Smith Jr., age 34, was last in contact with his family in June 2011. At the time, he was believed to be residing either in the unincorporated areas around Grass Valley, California, or possibly in South Sacramento. His disappearance became more mysterious when, in June 2012, his maroon Honda Civic was discovered abandoned near the Buckeye Flat trailhead in the El Dorado National Forest.
