In the summer of 2023, tragedy struck in Montgomery, Alabama, when 25-year-old Melvin Jerome Steiner, Jr., a native and resident of the city, was killed. On the evening of Monday, July 10th, Steiner was fatally shot on Hugh Street, in front of McIntyre Comprehensive Academy. He was not the only person to lose his life in the incident; 21-year-old Lamarch Russell, Jr. was also killed in the same shooting.
Melvin, known to some as 'Lil Mel,' was born on January 25, 1998.
At the time of his death, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the double homicide. The investigation into the deaths of both Melvin Steiner, Jr. and Lamarch Russell, Jr. is ongoing.
He was survived by his parents, a son, his girlfriend and her two children, as well as four sisters, a brother, and a stepbrother. His family and friends were left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a young man in the prime of his life. Funeral services were held to honor his memory later that month at Freewill Missionary Baptist Church, followed by his burial at Kindle Memorial Cemetery.
