On July 13, 2023, at approximately 10 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 500 block of Zinnia Lane. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle that had been shot into, with two unresponsive male occupants inside. The victims were identified as 30-year-old Cardarrius Derrell Bryant of Fultondale and 28-year-old Deforest Chanier Kines Jr. of Birmingham.
