In the early morning hours of August 3, 2023, the life of 40-year-old Tuskonee Carlvelous Kaboyse'a Woods, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Pell City, Alabama. At approximately 2:00 a.m., Pell City Police were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Miracle Street following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Woods deceased inside the home, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A 34-year-old woman was also found at the scene with gunshot injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham in critical condition.
Later that same morning, around 6:00 a.m., a suspect in the shooting surrendered to authorities. Johntavius Ryshod Keith, a 21-year-old from Pell City, turned himself in to law enforcement. He was subsequently arrested and has been charged with murder in connection with Woods' death. The investigation into the incident remained ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being filed as authorities continued to piece together the events of that fatal night.
Tuskonee Woods, born on December 4, 1982, was remembered by those who knew him as a man with a deep passion for music. He was the CEO and group manager for the DTD Squad, a testament to his love for the art form. Described as kind and loyal, his death left a void in the lives of his friends and family. Funeral services to honor his life were held on August 19, 2023, at the Freewill Church of God in Christ in Pell City.
