In the early morning hours of August 3, 2023, the life of Tuskonee Carlvelous Kaboyse'a Woods, a 40-year-old Black / African American male from Pell City, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Responding to reports of gunfire at approximately 2:00 a.m. in the 600 block of Miracle Street, Pell City Police discovered Woods inside a residence, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. At the scene, officers also found a 34-year-old woman suffering from gunshot injuries; she was transported to a hospital in Birmingham in critical condition.
The investigation into the death of Tuskonee Woods quickly led to a person of interest. Later that same morning, around 6:00 a.m., 21-year-old Johntavius Ryshod Keith, also of Pell City, surrendered to the authorities. Following his surrender, Keith was charged with murder in connection with Woods' death. The investigation was announced to be ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being filed as more details about the incident came to light.
Tuskonee Woods, born on December 4, 1982, was remembered by those who knew him as a man with a deep passion for music. He was the CEO and group manager for the DTD Squad. His family and friends recalled him as a kind and loyal individual. Funeral services to honor his life were held on August 19, 2023, at the Freewill Church of God in Christ in Pell City.
