In the late hours of a Monday evening, tragedy struck a family in Alabama. On January 22, 2024, Moody Police Department officers were dispatched around 11 p.m. to what was reported as a possible domestic assault. Upon their arrival at the residence, they discovered a grim scene. Two individuals had been shot. The victims were identified as 61-year-old John D. Bowlin and his 60-year-old wife, Connie L. Bowlin. John, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. His wife, Connie, was found injured but alive and was transported to UAB hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
The focus of the investigation quickly turned to the couple's son, John Adam Bowlin. The 35-year-old, a White male from Trussville, was located at a separate location in the 800 block of Argo Margaret Road. With the assistance of the St. Clair County SWAT Team, he was taken into custody without incident in the early morning hours, around 2 a.m. He was subsequently transported to the St. Clair County Jail.
John Adam Bowlin was charged with the murder of his father and the attempted murder of his mother. In an initial court appearance, a St. Clair County District Judge denied him bond under Aniah's Law, stating in the order that the suspect was a danger to himself and the public. However, in a later court hearing, a judge granted him bail, setting the amount at a total of $500,000. The decision to grant bail raised concerns for his surviving family members. His sister, Heather Bowlin, expressed fear for her mother's safety, indicating that her mother was scared he might return to harm her or someone else.
