In the afternoon hours of Thursday, January 4, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the calm at the Shoppes at EastChase in Montgomery, Alabama, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. The victim was identified as 21-year-old Larry Wright Jr., a Black male. First responders, arriving at the 6800 block of Eastchase Parkway around 2:55 p.m., found Wright with a fatal gunshot wound.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, which was located in the parking lot of the Juicy Crab restaurant. The vehicle at the center of the investigation was riddled with at least eight bullet holes, a stark testament to the violence that had unfolded in the busy commercial area in broad daylight.
The Montgomery Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into what they later described as a domestic incident. Their efforts led to the swift identification and arrest of two suspects within days of the shooting. Jaden Waters, 23, and Myeesha Townsend, 19, both from Montgomery, were taken into custody and charged with capital murder. It was also reported that Waters had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the incident. Following their arrests, both Waters and Townsend were placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond.
As the investigation continued, authorities announced that a third suspect had been arrested in connection with Wright's murder, though further details about this individual were not immediately made public. The case, having moved from a crime scene investigation to the judicial process, now sees the accused awaiting legal proceedings for their alleged roles in the death of Larry Wright Jr.
