On March 19, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., 28-year-old Byron Jerome McNeal Jr. was fatally shot near the intersection of 2nd Street North and 6th Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. Officers from the North Precinct responded to a report of a person shot and found McNeal lying unresponsive in the roadway, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.
