In the summer of 2015, a life full of promise was tragically cut short on a street in Northwest Washington, D.C. Antonio Austin, a 31-year-old man, was fatally stabbed on the afternoon of Monday, July 27th. The attack occurred around 3:04 p.m. in the 400 block of E Street, NW, shockingly close to the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Department. Austin, who was engaged to be married and the father of two young children, a 10-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son, succumbed to multiple stab wounds. He was the only brother among six siblings.
The circumstances surrounding the violent encounter suggest a sudden and brutal confrontation. According to his family, who saw surveillance footage of the incident, three men followed Antonio before he turned to confront them with his umbrella. The men then attacked him, inflicting numerous stab wounds to his face, back, and leg.
The motive for this hateful act remains unclear, leaving his family devastated and searching for answers.
In the wake of the murder, the Metropolitan Police Department released surveillance images of three men identified as persons of interest. Despite the clarity of the footage and the proximity of the crime scene to their own headquarters, the case has grown cold. A year after Antonio Austin's death, his family expressed immense frustration that no arrests had been made, feeling that his case had been lost in the shuffle of the city's rising crime rate. The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and are offering a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for this senseless killing.
