In the late hours of a summer night in Washington, D.C., the lives of two men were tragically cut short by gunfire. Raeshard Blue, a 40-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on August 27, 2016. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the River Terrace neighborhood of Northeast Washington.
Blue was not the only victim that night. Alongside him, 27-year-old Trayvon Johnson was also shot and killed. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene on 34th Street NE, they found both men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, while Blue was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
