On a Tuesday evening in September, the life of a young man from Oxon Hill, Maryland, was cut short on a street in Southeast Washington, D.C. Deon Calvin Smith, a 19-year-old male, was in the 4600 block of Livingston Road SE on September 13, 2016, when gunfire erupted at approximately 9:30 p.m. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting and found Smith unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
