On January 18, 1909, in Juneau, Alaska, F.K. "Charlie" von Dahmer, a bartender, was fatally shot by Robert Stroud, who would later become infamous as the "Birdman of Alcatraz." The incident stemmed from von Dahmer's violent assault on Kitty O'Brien, a prostitute and dance-hall entertainer with whom Stroud was romantically involved.
