On August 4, 2006, in Juneau, Alaska, 26-year-old Simone Yung Kim, a painting contractor from Anchorage, was fatally shot behind the Fred Meyer store where he was working on renovations. The assailant, later identified as 28-year-old Jason Michael Coday from Vernal, Utah, approached Kim and shot him multiple times with a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle. A nearby landscaper managed to wrestle the weapon away from Coday, who then fled into the surrounding woods.
