On August 11, 2018, 63-year-old Bruce Alan Owens of Juneau, Alaska, died from a gunshot wound to the head. He had gone with a friend to Juneau Mercantile & Armory in the Mendenhall Valley for recreational shooting. The incident was witnessed and captured on the store's video surveillance system.
