On July 6, 2023, in Juneau, Alaska, 23-year-old Tyler Newman was fatally shot in the head during an encounter in the parking lot of the Chinook Apartments in the Mendenhall Valley. Surveillance footage revealed that Newman, who was on a bicycle, approached the driver's side of a black Dodge pickup truck and engaged in conversation with the driver. Shortly thereafter, Newman collapsed to the ground, and the truck departed the scene.
