On the evening of October 23, 2021, at approximately 8:27 p.m., Anchorage police officers responded to a reported shooting at the Backpackers Annex, located at 421 Eagle Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Joseph W. Evans suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite prompt medical attention, Evans succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
