On May 3, 1982, in Anchorage, Alaska, 19-year-old Joseph Dean Kimler and three friends—Vern Sylvester, 19; Sabrina Imlach, 16; and Rebecca Phillips, 16—were camping in Russian Jack Springs Park. Their evening took a tragic turn when Charles Louman Meach III, armed with a .38-caliber revolver, approached their campsite with the intent to steal.
