Michael Roy Anderson, known affectionately as "M.A." or "Mike," was born on May 27, 1961, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. His father, Roy Darrell "Andy" Anderson, served in the U.S. Air Force, leading the family to live in various locations, including California, Japan, Washington D.C., Iran, South Dakota, and Washington state. In 1983, after an adventurous journey up the Alcan Highway, Michael settled in Anchorage, Alaska, a place he would call home for the rest of his life.
