On May 29, 2023, at approximately 12:39 a.m., Anchorage police officers responded to a shooting on the 3800 block of Spenard Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Shnon Choi with trauma to his upper body; he was pronounced deceased at the scene. This incident marked the eighth homicide in Anchorage for the year.
