On January 25, 2023, at approximately 11:45 PM, Anchorage police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 2300 block of Eureka Street, located in the Midtown area. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Elijah Anderson deceased, having sustained trauma to his upper body. The Anchorage Police Department initiated a homicide investigation, urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the vicinity to come forward.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of
29-year-old Miles Owen White, who was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and third-degree misconduct involving weapons in connection with Anderson's death. At the time of the incident, White was on conditions of release for prior offenses, including first-degree burglary and third-degree assault. He had removed his electronic monitoring device on November 1, 2022, leading to an arrest warrant issued on November 7, 2022. White was also indicted for third-degree escape due to the removal of his ankle monitor.
The APD expressed gratitude to the Alaska State Troopers for their assistance in the investigation, which culminated in White's arrest. The case underscores the challenges law enforcement faces when individuals on conditional release violate monitoring protocols, potentially leading to further criminal activity.
