A 36-year-old White / Caucasian woman, Nancy Dunbar of Fairbanks, Alaska, was found dead on May 14, 2023, in her home alongside her parents, Wesley and Linda Dunbar. The discovery came about when someone who knew the family had not heard from them in some time and requested a welfare check.
Police responded to the residence on McCarty Avenue and entered the house, where they discovered that all three — Nancy, age 36, and her parents, both age 64 — had died. Autopsy or preliminary reports indicated that each suffered gunshot wounds and that they had been deceased for several weeks prior to discovery.
At the scene, investigators found a suicide note and a firearm. The incident has been characterized by authorities as an apparent murder-suicide. The specific identity of who fired the shots has not been publicly confirmed. Motive details also have not been released in full.
There have been no public reports of an arrest related to the deaths. Because the case is treated as a murder-suicide, the “suspect” is understood to be deceased. No charges have been filed against anyone other than the conclusion of law enforcement that the deaths were self-inflicted by one of the family members after the shootings.
