On May 14, 2023, Fairbanks police conducted a welfare check at a residence on McCarty Avenue after receiving a call from an acquaintance concerned about the family's well-being. Inside, officers discovered the bodies of 64-year-old Linda and Wesley Dunbar, along with their 36-year-old daughter, Nancy Dunbar. The preliminary investigation indicated that all three had died from gunshot wounds and had been deceased for several weeks.
