On June 1, 2024, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Anchorage police officers patrolling the downtown area heard gunshots near the 700 block of West 4th Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Diego Joe deceased from multiple gunshot wounds in an alcove behind the Pioneer Bar. Another man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found nearby with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
