Just after 1:30 a.m. on December 3, 2018, a mid-shift Anchorage police officer noticed a Chevrolet Suburban traveling eastbound on East 82nd Avenue without headlights and missing a front license plate. The driver parked in front of a warehouse at 1630 East 82nd Avenue and went inside. As additional officers arrived and approached, gunfire erupted from within the building. When officers reached the area, they found a 25-year-old Black male, Dylan J.
Gregg, lying outside; he had been shot inside the warehouse and collapsed after moving outside. Medics pronounced the 25-year-old male deceased at the scene. A second adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper body crawled out of the warehouse and was rushed to a hospital, where police said he was expected to survive. Three more adults exited and were taken to police headquarters for questioning.
With a perimeter in place, officers continued to hear shots from inside as they issued commands. A sixth adult male at the scene refused to comply. SWAT and a K9 team responded to the yard surrounding the warehouse and began a track. K9 Doc located the noncompliant man hiding beneath a semi-trailer parked on the property. The dog apprehended him with a bite to the upper arm; he was taken to a hospital for treatment and afterward to police headquarters for questioning.
By the afternoon of December 3, police indicated that initial evidence pointed to an argument inside the warehouse that escalated into gunfire. Two days later, authorities formally identified the deceased as 25-year-old Dylan J. Gregg, and announced that the man found hiding on the property—27-year-old Ian A. Bradford—was the sole suspect in the killing and the wounding of the second victim. Police said Bradford was taken into custody and remanded to the Anchorage Jail on counts of first- and second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree misconduct involving weapons and tampering with physical evidence.
Family and community notices soon marked the loss. An obituary confirmed that Dylan James Gregg died in Anchorage on December 3, 2018, and a public memorial was scheduled the following week. A memorial fundraiser set up by a family member described his death as sudden and tragic, gathering messages and donations to help with funeral and living expenses. These notices underscored the shock that followed the warehouse gunfire and the abrupt end to the life of the 25-year-old male.
