On a cold Monday morning, December 3, 2007, Anchorage police were called to a quiet Bear Valley neighborhood. Inside a home on the 15000 block of Francesca Drive, they found white male, age 55, John Pezzenti Jr., a celebrated wildlife photographer, lying dead on the floor. Investigators would later conclude he likely died over the weekend—sometime after Saturday evening and before early Sunday afternoon—alone in the house where he had built a life around Alaska's wild beauty.
