Brandon Christopher Irlmeier, a 20-year-old Alaska Native male, was killed on December 2, 2017 in Anchorage, Alaska. On the evening of that day police responded to a call about an altercation on the 7000 block of Howard Avenue around 10:41 p.m., and found Irlmeier deceased from a gunshot wound.
According to accounts from his family and from Victims for Justice, prior to being shot Brandon had also been beaten and strangled; he was left to die in freezing rain at the bottom of a
staircase. His body was discovered outdoors, and his death was classified a homicide.
In the days following his death, police identified three persons of interest in the case—young males in their late teens or early twenties. One of them, 21-year-old Orion Lind, was taken into custody and questioned by authorities but was **not charged** in relation to Irlmeier's death. Lind was remanded to the Anchorage Jail on an unrelated probation violation warrant, not for the homicide.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the killing, and the case remains unsolved. Brandon's grandmother has voiced concern over the lack of progress in the investigation, the apparent cold-case status of the case, and repeated vandalism of Brandon's memorial site at the staircase where he died.
