Around 3:00 a.m., as he rode shotgun in a blue Nissan four-door near the intersection of 5th Avenue and H Street downtown, a street-corner confrontation sparked. Witnesses later recalled a tense exchange between the Nissan's occupants and people in other vehicles idling nearby, the kind of quick escalation that can turn a cold night volatile in a heartbeat.
